Tips for a Toothache

Cleans your mouth:
Toothaches can be caused by tiny pieces of food that have been lodged in the tooth and are irritating the pain of possible cavities or gingivitis. If this is the issue, cleaning your mouth will help eliminate the pain and hopefully fix the problem.

Floss around the tooth and make sure you floss up to the gum line.  This will help pick up any particles that are stuck there.

Brushing the area for several minutes is one of the best ways to help with the pain.

Finish by using mouthwash to rinse away loose food particles.

Continue using this routine twice a day, every day.

Sea salt rinse:
Make a rinse with warm water and sea salt. After the salt has dissolved, gargle the water, making sure it gets around the affected and painful area. Rinse multiple times a day until the pain is gone.

Apply ice:
Cover a bag of ice with paper towel or cloth, and apply it the cheek outside of the toothache. The cold will help ease the pain and any swelling that has occurred.

Take a pain reliever:
Having a sore tooth can make it hard to eat and sometimes hard to sleep. Aspirin, ibuprofen or acetaminophen can provide quick relief if you need it.
